The walking tunnel that runs under Main Street along the Rum River (Down by the Anoka Dam) was our first project for Young Artists of Anoka. Although this was a big project, it was well worth the hard work and planning!
The project was approved in October 2014 and Students started applying in March 2015. The tunnel was prepped by the city with a fresh coat of paint and we started painting in June and continued painting through the end of July. The 38 students worked hard on their windows each week until their section was complete. The new LED lights were put in the first week in August, just in time for the Ribbon Cutting, held on August 11th.
The last part of the project was a last minute project since the wall going up the ramp on the south side of tunnel was getting tagged with inappropriate graffiti, we called in a local artist to work on this project 2 days before the Ribbon Cutting. Sean Walberg and I (Jen Shoemaker) worked hard to complete this huge wall in time.
The Ribbon Cutting had a huge turnout of friends, family and fans of the project, including Channel 5 news and ABC Newspapers.
